The Campus Groups portlet

A key feature for working with groups is the Campus Groups portlet. Throughout your portal, there are probably several instances of this portlet.

Each instance of the portlet can be set up with a different view. For example, one view encourages you to browse groups, another encourages you to apply to create groups, and so forth. These views are detailed below.

The My Groups view lists the groups to which you currently belong. From this view, you can click the name of any group to go directly to the context for that group. Next to each group listed is a label that says either Drop Group or Sole Leader.

If the Drop Group link is displayed, that means that you are either a member of the group or one of multiple leaders, and in either case, you are allowed to drop the group. If the Sole Leader label is displayed, you are not allowed to drop the group (though in this case, you can use the Manage This Group page to make another member a co-leader, and then you will be allowed to drop).

Note that the My Groups view also includes links to the two other views (Browse Groups View and New Group Application View).

The Browse Groups view lists all public groups. From this view, you can click the name of any group to go directly to the context for that group.

If the group is currently open to new members, a link for joining is provided. Clicking the Join link either adds you automatically to the group or lets you apply, depending on how the group is set up.

If the group already has the maximum number of members, or if it is open by invitation only, the system displays a grayed-out Closed label.

When on-screen messaging mentions the Campus Groups Directory, this is typically the view that is being referenced. Note that private groups are not listed in this view.

The New Group Application view shows the application form used by people who want to propose new groups -- if you want to suggest a new group, fill out the form and await feedback from an administrator. For more details on this process, see Applying to create a group.
